The houses were photographed under largely consistent conditions to allow for direct visual comparison. While the buildings share similar scales and broadly comparable forms, their juxtaposition reveals a nuanced range of variation in architectural expression.
The deliberately prosaic title of the series, EFH, derives from the German term Einfamilienhaus (single-family home). It references the commonplace practice of architectural offices to condense project names into three-letter acronyms, thereby underscoring both the ordinariness and systematic framing of the subject.
