GESTALTEN DER ORDNUNG

(designing shapes of order)

This project explores forms and processes of order. Yes, order - it's not as dull as it sounds! I have discovered patterns in my collection of architectural photographs and combined them with meticulously constructed facade images of German federal ministries. Like the places, spaces or buildings depicted, each individual image is constructed in terms of content and capture. Every detail is essential.

Order is not just cosmetic, but the structure that holds everything together. The form, composition and organisation of elements must be balanced to create a harmonious overall picture. Balancing symmetry and asymmetry, fine-tuning materials and colours - all this should convey meaning with style. Order is therefore not just a state, but an activity - a constant negotiation between chaos and structure.

In addition to the visible forms of order, ‘Gestalten der Ordnung’ also refers to the process of organising it. Every existing order is the result of a previous process - and every new organising process draws on existing structures. This interplay makes it clear that order is not a static concept, but a dynamic process that is constantly being renegotiated - be it through social systems, cultural norms or natural structures.

The visible forms of order offer orientation and stability and are an expression of a historical moment. However, they are also subject to continuous change. Designing order means structuring a complex world and opens up opportunities for innovation and progress. The challenge here is to design it in such a way that it remains dynamic and can adapt to new circumstances.
